ResWater
Non-Conventional Water Resources for Resilient Urban Water Management
Strengthening urban water resilience through innovative, decentralized non-conventional water resource solutions across Mediterranean partner countries.

Project Description
The ResWater project aims to strengthen urban water resilience among Mediterranean partners by exploring small-scale and decentralized Non-Conventional Water Resource (NCWR) technologies that reduce reliance on traditional freshwater sources.
The project will assess urban water demand hotspots, examine future water supply risks, and support the development of resilient Urban Water Management Plans that enhance long-term water security, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge sharing.
Key Objectives
01. NCWR Solutions Catalogue
Assess urban water systems and develop a detailed catalogue of non-conventional water resource solutions.
02. Water Demand Analysis
Analyse water demand and supply trends in pilot catchments and produce technical reports to support future planning.
03. Living Labs & Community
Establish Living Labs and a regional Community of Practice to support knowledge exchange and stakeholder participation.
04. Capacity Building
Design and deliver specialized training to enhance technical expertise and promote the adoption of NCWR technologies.
05. Demonstration Sites
Establish decentralized NCWR demonstration sites in public buildings to assess performance and cost feasibility.
06. Policy & Governance
Develop evidence-based policy recommendations to address regulatory gaps and support resilient urban water management.
Project Outcomes
ResWater will deliver practical tools, demonstration facilities, training opportunities, and policy recommendations to support resilient urban water management across the Mediterranean region.
Online NCWR Catalogue
An online catalogue of decentralized non-conventional water resource solutions.
Urban Demonstration Units
Six urban demonstration units to showcase practical applications and collect performance data.
Policy Framework
A policy framework supporting resilient Urban Water Management Plans.
Training & Knowledge Sharing
A regional training course, later expanded into a MOOC, alongside Living Labs and a regional Community of Practice.
Who Will Benefit?
Policymakers, researchers, municipalities, water authorities, and citizens across the Mediterranean region will benefit from the project’s innovative solutions, knowledge resources, and resilient urban water management approaches.
