Water Infrastructure Development Projects
New Esna Barrage Spillway Project
Modernizing the operation and monitoring systems of the New Esna Barrage spillway gates, improving gate performance and upgrading control and monitoring systems to support efficient water management and reliable operation of water infrastructure.

Project Overview
The General Administration of the New Esna Barrage was established following the completion of the New Esna Barrage project in 1994. Its responsibilities include operating, maintaining and protecting the barrage and managing its associated infrastructure.
The project aims to modernize the operation and monitoring systems of the New Esna Barrage spillway gates and improve operational efficiency through mechanical, electrical and civil works. These include rehabilitating gates and operating equipment, upgrading control and monitoring systems, and constructing a control and monitoring building.
The works also include upgrading the electrical power supply system, installing a SCADA monitoring and control system and a fire alarm system, rehabilitating the hydraulic system for the flap gates, and repairing cracks and waterproofing the gate chambers.
Main Objective
Modernizing spillway gate operation and monitoring systems to improve performance and control.

Spillway Gate Rehabilitation
Improving gate performance through maintenance, riveting, painting and rehabilitation; dewatering gate chambers; supplying and installing new chains; and rehabilitating the two flap gates.
Gantry Crane
Maintaining and rehabilitating the gantry crane with a capacity of 90/35 tonnes, and replacing mechanical components of the spillway gates, including gears, rollers and chain housings.
2. Electrical Works and Control Systems
Upgrading monitoring, control, power supply and surveillance systems
SCADA System
Upgrading the control system and introducing a SCADA system for monitoring and control to facilitate operation and regulate gate movement.
Power Supply and Lighting
Power supply and lighting works for the spillway gates, including upgrading and renewing the electrical supply system and automating its operation.
Fire Alarm and Remote Control
Installing a fire alarm system and introducing remote control to monitor and operate the gates through a control interface, improving management efficiency and response time while reducing human error.
3. Civil Works
The civil works include constructing a control and monitoring building for the New Esna Barrage spillway gates, as well as maintaining and painting the spillway gate chambers.
The works also include repairing cracks and fine fissures and waterproofing the chamber walls and floors to prevent leakage.
