Activities of the Nile River Development and Protection Sector and its two Branches

– The Nile River Development and Protection Sector and its 2 branches supervise the implementation of many projects within the framework of preserving the Nile River and protecting its banks from erosion, as well as working on developing the Nile River waterfronts, in addition to carrying out maintenance and cleaning works of the Nile River from weeds and water hyacinth, and implementing dredging works for the Nile River channel, along a distance of nearly 1500 kilometers from Aswan to the Mediterranean Sea on both the eastern and western branches.
The sector also confronts all forms of encroachments on the river’s waterway and its banks by implementing intensive campaigns to remove encroachments on the river channel in all governorates of the republic that overlook the Nile River, with the aim of reaching a Nile free of encroachments.
Among the most prominent current projects of the sector is” The National Project for Regulating the Nile”, which aims to restore the full carrying capacity of the river channel and remove all encroachments within the water sector.
Also currently underway:
• Development of the Sebaiya Nile Corniche in Aswan Governorate over a length of 800 meters
• Protection works for the banks of the Nile River in the Hor Moheb area – Kom Ombo Center – Aswan Governorate over a length of 170 meters
• Development of the Dendera Nile Corniche in Luxor Governorate over a length of 200 meters
– the protection works for the banks of the Nile River have been completed over a length of approximately 400 meters for the villages of Al-Raqaba, Al-Radisiya, and Al-Tonabia in Aswan Governorate.
